Affected products
This recall involves the Black Diamond Recon LT Avalanche Transceiver manufactured and sold between June 2021 and February 2025, and having serial numbers with the first four digits between the range of 2040 - 2321. The serial number can be found by connecting the transceiver to the PIEPS app via Bluetooth. The devices are worn by skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers to aid search and rescue should they or their partners become buried in an avalanche. The transceiver was sold as a standalone unit and as part of two avalanche safety sets.
The transceiver is plastic and measures 11 centimetres tall by 7 centimetres wide. It has a grey and black exterior, a blue top, and an LCD screen on the front. The Black Diamond Logo and model name are displayed on the front of the unit.

Issue
The metal contact in the switch mechanism of the Recon LT avalanche transceiver can corrode, potentially causing it to malfunction or turn off, which can cause delayed search and rescue operations in the case of an avalanche.
As of February 14, 2025, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada or the United States. The company has received 6 reports in Europe of the product malfunctioning or turning off, with no reports of injuries.
