Product description
This recall involves Bontrager Satellite City pedals that were sold as original equipment on certain Trek bicycles as well as an after-market product. The affected pedals have "ZTR02" molded on the axle side of each pedal body.
Hazard identified
If the recalled pedals are incorrectly installed by the retailer during assembly, they can fall off the crank arm of the bicycle, posing fall and injury hazards to the rider.
As of July 8, 2021, the company has received 16 reports of pedal disengaging from crank in Canada, and 1 report of minor injury. In the United States, the company has received 132 reports of the recalled pedals loosening, locking up or falling off, including 7 reports of injuries, including scrapes, bruises and road rash.
Number sold
The company reported that 33,540 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and 368,000 were sold in the United States.
Time period sold
The affected pedals were sold from January 2018 to March 2021.
