Health Canada warns that Onlyfire Smokeless Tabletop Fire Pit Fireplace sold on Amazon.ca may pose a flame jetting and fire hazard
Summary
Immediately stop using the tabletop fire pit and safely dispose of it in such a way that it cannot be used again.
Affected products
This alert involves the Onlyfire Smokeless Tabletop Fire Pit Fireplace.
Issue
Onlyfire Smokeless Tabletop Fire Pit Fireplaces are small, tabletop fire pit/bowl that require consumers to pour alcohol, including isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, into the bowl and then ignite the pooled alcohol in the same location it was poured.
Isopropyl alcohol burns with flame temperatures over 1,600°F (871°C) and can cause third degree burns in less than one second. Igniting pooled alcohol in the affected products creates an uncontrollable pool fire, which can suddenly produce larger, hotter flames that can spread beyond the product.
Flame jetting can occur when refilling fuel in an Onlyfire Smokeless Tabletop Fire Pit Fireplace if any flame or hot surface is present. A flame in an affected product can be hard to see and the vapours inside the fuel container can ignite as it is poured into the fireplace. This can lead to flames violently shooting out of the fuel container or a dangerous explosion that propels flames and burning liquid onto the consumer or bystanders.
What you should do
Consumers who have the affected product should immediately stop using it and safely dispose of it in such a way that it cannot be used again.
Regularly check the Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database for dangerous products and take action to remove items of concern.
Health Canada would like to remind consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of these products or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

What is being done
Health Canada was working with the foreign manufacturer, TOPF MFG INC, for this product, however they did not agree to a voluntary recall. Health Canada is warning people in Canada to stop using these dangerous products.

Portable firepots are required to meet the performance criteria outlined in ASTM F3363-19, "Standard Specification for Unvented Liquid/Gel Fuel-Burning Portable Devices", or an equivalent standard, in order to mitigate the risk of flame jetting and fire. Products that meet the requirements of the standard are designed in such a way that fuel cannot be poured into the firepot in the same location where it is burned and cannot hold a pool of alcohol.
Health Canada is committed to helping protect consumers from potentially dangerous consumer products. The Department regularly tests consumer products available for sale in stores or online and continues to monitor products to help keep consumers safe.
To date, no incidents or injuries related to these products have been reported to Health Canada.
