What to do

Immediately stop using the affected products and dispose of them according to municipal hazardous waste guidelines.

Affected products

This alert involves the following products:

  • PGST Independent Smoke Detector Sensor Fire Alarm System for Home Office Security Smoke Alarm Fire Protection, S11D-EN (on packaging) Photoelectric Smoke Alarm, Model PG-S11 (on product)

  • GauTone Independent Smoke Alarm Fire Protection Smokehouse Home Security System Smoke Detector, GT-441B-1 (on packaging) Photoelectric Smoke Alarm, Model PG-S11 (on product)

Issue

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has determined that the product may not meet the Residential Detectors Regulations in Canada. The Residential Detectors Regulations require that smoke detectors, heat actuated fire detectors and smoke alarms in Canada meet the applicable Canadian standards. The product does not have a Canadian certification mark and it is unknown if the alarm operates in the presence of smoke or fire, posing a potential fire hazard.

Health Canada reminds consumers that products that do not have a recognized Canadian certification mark may not meet Canadian performance standards and could fail or operate incorrectly. This could pose a risk to consumers who may not be alerted to a fire incident in their home. For more information on what to look for when purchasing a smoke alarm or detector, see Health Canada's Consumer Information -  When purchasing smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, look for a Canadian certification mark.

What you should do

Consumers who have these affected products should immediately stop using them and dispose of the items according to municipal hazardous waste guidelines. Consumers should replace the affected product with one that bears a Canadian certification mark.

Regularly check the Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database for dangerous products and take action to remove items of concern.

Health Canada would like to remind consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of these products or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

Additional information

What is being done

The products have been removed from sale online from AliExpress. Health Canada has contacted the foreign third-party seller who has been unresponsive to requests to voluntarily recall, therefore Health Canada is advising consumers to immediately stop using the smoke alarm. Health Canada reminds consumers to learn about the risks of buying consumer products online (see Related Links above).

As of March 10, 2026, AliExpress reported that 276 units of the affected products were sold in Canada.

To date, no incidents or injuries related to these products have been reported to Health Canada.

Health Canada is committed to helping protect consumers from potentially dangerous consumer products. The Department regularly evaluates consumer products available for sale in stores or online and continues to monitor products to help keep consumers safe.
