Issue

Issue:
On a small number of buses, a programming problem could cause excess diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) to be injected into the exhaust after-treatment system. As a result, there could be a higher than normal amount of ammonia in the exhaust emissions.
Note: This recall only affects buses equipped with a Cummins 2021 model year L9 diesel engine.

Safety Risk:
Exposure to elevated levels of ammonia could create a risk of injury.

Corrective Actions:
New Flyer will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your bus to a Cummins authorized service center to update the software for the engine control module. To reduce the safety risk, New Flyer and Cummins recommend that you should avoid running the engine in a confined space, such as a service bay, without the use of an exhaust extraction system.
