Issue

Issue:
On certain vehicles, the high-voltage battery module may not be properly sealed. As a result, water could enter the battery module. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels and/or the high-voltage battery could overheat.
Note: This problem would cause a warning message to display on the instrument panel. This recall only affects the 3-door model.

Safety Risk:
A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A battery that overheats can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Corrective Actions:
BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the high-voltage battery housing. The dealer will also replace additional high-voltage battery components, as necessary. To reduce the safety risk, BMW advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.
