Issue

On certain vehicles, under certain conditions, a software problem in the battery electric vehicle control unit (BEV ECU) could cause the electric drive system to shut down while driving. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels.

Safety risk

A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective actions

To reduce the safety risk, Toyota advises that you should limit the vehicle's maximum state of charge to no more than 80% until the recall repairs have been completed. Toyota will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the BEV ECU software.
