Immediately stop using the recalled top hat and contact the company for a replacement.

Affected products

This recall involves the removable plastic top hat sold with the My First Snowman Toy. The top hat is black, with a red band, and a round white snowflake design above the band. The toy snowman was sold with additional removable facial features and mittens. The Step2 logo appears on the front of the snowman. The top hat is battery powered and when shaken it plays Christmas tunes, and the snowflake lights up. Only top hats manufactured in December (12) 2023 and April (04) 2024 are affected. The date code appears on the bottom of the hat near the battery compartment. The product was sold at Walmart Canada online only.



Issue

The brim of the hat can break creating a small part causing a potential choking hazard.

As of May 28, 2025, the company has received no reports of incident or injury in Canada.  In the United States, the company has received 44  reports of the brim of the top hat cracking or breaking  and  no reports of injury.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled My First Snowman and stop using the top hat, provide the company with a photo of the date code on the bottom of the brim before disposing of the top hat. The company will provide consumers who register for the recall with a replacement top hat made of a different material.
